Indian cricket history from Ramchandra Guha

Finally managed to get hold of Ramachandra Guha’s book on the social history of Indian cricket, A corner of a foreign field. It is a fascinating read with copious amounts of historical information that would delight cricket lovers around the world. Like any good historian, which he is, he has researched to unearth new material and the result show it. The notes at the end contain an enormous amount of references from both Indian and English sources.

The setting up of Indian Premier League, the IPL, is the newest chapter in the game’s rich history in India. When all is said and done about the IPL, I am sure there will be enough material for another book. It is either going to be one of the greatest sporting coups of all time or one of the greatest failures.
